dreams, marriage and watermelon sandcastles

intimacy is a funny thing. no, don't send the kids to the other room, i promise i am not going there. it's just that i am amazed at what happens when you decide to spend your life with another person. the things you find out - both good and disturbing - are beautiful. you find yourself saying, "you know my thoughts" and "do you really have to do that in here?" almost daily. this idea was sparked a few moments ago when my wife, who fell asleep on the couch, briefly woke up. i love watching her sleep but i love watching her wake up even more. you see, when she sleeps she sleeps hard and sometimes you need an AED to wake her up. but whenever she returns from a deep sleep she always strings together words that don't make sense. phrases like, "cactus ghost fingernail blues" and "where is the watermelon sandcastle" must mean something to her... i don't understand them but i don't care. like snow on warm concrete her words are gone as soon as they appear. that's ok because that is not the point. the words may not be worth remembering but the moment is. so when she mumbled something a few moments ago as she rolled over to bury her face in the couch pillow i was reminded how lucky i am to be married to a wonderful "rainbow blanket telephone wishes" woman.

I'm not the only one who says and does weird things in their sleep. If only we could record some of our "sleep talks". I think even you might be embarrassed at some of the things you do while in dream land.
